In the first five months of 2025, Georgia consumed approximately 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas, according to Geostat. Of that, 201 million m³ were used for electricity generation, while gas usage in thermal power plants dropped to 64 million m³, down from last year.

Domestic gas production remains minimal at 4.5 million m³, making Georgia almost entirely reliant on imports. In January–June 2025, the country imported over $226 million worth of natural gas, a 6% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

Gas imports from Azerbaijan fell by 8% to $116 million, while imports from Russia surged by 26% to $110.5 million.

According to GNERC, Georgia’s gas imports from Azerbaijan (excluding optional volumes) dropped to 775 million m³ in 2024, while Russian gas imports rose to 788 million m³, marking a 32% increase from 2023, continuing the shift in import trends.
