Georgia consumed 2.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas in January–August 2026, up nearly by 9% year-on-year, according to Geostat. Domestic production remained negligible at just 8.7 million cubic meters, leaving the country heavily dependent on imports.
Natural gas consumption for electricity generation reached 316 million cubic meters during the eight-month period, a 6% increase year-on-year, or 17.2 million cubic meters more than in the same period of 2025.
Georgia has two natural gas suppliers, Azerbaijan and Russia, with declining deliveries from Azerbaijan increasingly offset by Russian imports. In 2025, Georgia received 2.27 billion cubic meters from Azerbaijan, down by 1.6% year-on-year, according to the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC).
Meanwhile, Russian gas imports rose by 12% in 2025 to 886 million cubic meters, continuing the upward trend in supplies from Russia.
