The Georgian government has extended the deadline for utilizing a €255 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the Shorapani–Argveta road project until June 30, 2027. The ratification document was presented today by Deputy Minister of Economy Nino Enukidze to the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Policy, which approved the measure.
The loan, originally signed with the ADB, financed the construction of a 14.7-kilometer section of the road, including the Zestaponi bypass. While the highway was completed and opened for traffic in 2024, the credit agreement also covered a pilot project for dynamic weight control of vehicles, which requires the installation of scales along the route.
According to the explanatory note, the installation of this system is planned for the second quarter of 2026, necessitating the extension of the loan’s completion date from December 31, 2025, to June 30, 2027.
The government noted that most of the capital expenditure under the loan has already been executed, and the highway itself is already operational. The extension primarily accommodates the completion of ancillary infrastructure for traffic and safety monitoring.
