Georgia Has Its Own Place In NATO's Communique - Defence Minister

თავდაცვა

“The document released after the NATO anniversary summit represents a significant departure in format and content compared to previous releases. Georgia has its place in the document,” stated Irakli Chikovani, Georgian Defense Minister, regarding the NATO Washington Summit declaration.

Chikovani highlighted that the declaration includes a clear statement calling for the withdrawal of Russian military forces from Georgian territories. He emphasized NATO’s support for the open door policy, affirming that every state has the freedom to decide on joining the alliance.

“In terms of enlargement policy, while not directly referencing Bucharest, the declaration underscores NATO’s stance on the sovereign decisions of states regarding alliance membership, thereby supporting the open door policy,” Chikovani elaborated. “Furthermore, the context emphasizes the crucial role of both NATO members and close partners like Georgia, an aspirant state, in safeguarding international security. I remain optimistic that NATO’s enlargement will continue. The commitments outlined in the communiqué and Georgia’s constitutional aspirations will be realized in due course,” he concluded.
