Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili is on an official visit to Slovakia, meeting President Peter Pellegrini, as well as the Slovak Vice-Prime Minister and the Speaker of the National Council. Discussions focus on deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly in economic relations, tourism, and cultural exchanges.

Trade

  • Bilateral trade has grown steadily since 2020. In 2025, total trade reached $35.9 million (+6% YoY), with Georgia running a negative trade balance (imports exceed exports).
  • Imports from Slovakia: $25.9 million (−8% YoY). Top imports: light vehicles ($7.7M), vaccines/blood products ($2.8M), hygiene products ($1.8M), machinery ($1.3M), and sports equipment ($855K).
  • Exports to Slovakia: $10M (+75% YoY). Top exports: plywood panels ($5.4M), walnuts ($2.9M), fruits and plant products ($667K), prepared goods including textiles ($659K), and light vehicles ($196K).
  • Early 2026 (Jan–Feb) trade stood at $3.8M ($2.2M imports, $1.6M exports).

Investment

  • Slovak FDI in Georgia reached $11.7 million in 2025, the highest since $16.6M in 2020, marking a 0.2% growth for the year.

Tourism

  • Slovak visits have not fully recovered post-pandemic. In 2025, 6,155 Slovak tourists visited Georgia (up from 5,575 in 2024), compared to a 2019 peak of 6,689.

Remittances

Remittances from Slovakia are modest, contributing 0.4% of Georgia’s total inflows. In 2025, $14 million was transferred, up from $11 million in 2024.

Outlook

The official visit underlines the commitment to enhance economic, trade, and tourism ties, building on last year’s bilateral cooperation agreement signed at the Silk Road Forum in Tbilisi.
