Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that “Georgia and the United States are both trying to deepen relations with China,” adding that criticism from U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson on this issue is “completely illogical.” According to Kobakhidze, such statements are politically motivated and go against Georgia’s national interests.
Kobakhidze argued that Wilson’s position is driven by external instructions, claiming the congressman acts on “orders and directives” that are not aligned with Georgia’s or its citizens’ interests. He also said that Wilson’s statements have no particular importance and will remain irrelevant in the future.
His remarks come shortly after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill instructing the Trump administration to investigate the activities of Russian and Chinese intelligence agencies in Georgia. The legislation was initiated by Congressman Joe Wilson and was supported in a bipartisan vote, reflecting growing concern in Washington over foreign intelligence presence in the region.
If approved by the Senate, the bill would require U.S. security agencies to prepare a report within 180 days on alleged Russian and Chinese intelligence networks operating in Georgia.
