Georgia's National Wine Agency says the state has sold 10 million litres of brandy spirit produced from surplus grapes purchased during the 2025 grape harvest subsidy programme.

According to the agency, its subsidiary Harvest Management Company processed 145.7 million kilograms of grapes, producing 100.6 million litres of wine lees. Of this, 1.5 million litres of wine lees were sold directly, while the remaining volume was distilled into 10.04 million litres of brandy spirit, of which 10 million litres have been sold.

As of June 15, 2026, the company still held 43,450 litres of brandy spirit, valued at GEL 255,485. The National Wine Agency has not yet disclosed who purchased the spirit or how much revenue the sales generated.

The large stockpile stems from Georgia's grape subsidy programme, under which the government purchased surplus grapes after a record 330,000-tonne harvest in 2025. The programme cost the state a record GEL 247.1 million, with the government buying more than half of the harvest to support grape prices and prevent unsold produce.
