Georgia’s tomato imports decreased slightly in the first quarter of 2026, though prices continued to rise. Official data show that the country imported 7,242 tons of tomatoes worth $5.29 million, down from 7,522 tons valued at $5.36 million in the same period last year. As a result, import value fell by 1.1%, while volume declined by 3.7%.
Despite lower imports, the average price per ton increased. In Q1 2025, a ton of tomatoes cost an average of $712, while in Q1 2026 it rose to $731, marking a 2.6% price increase. Turkey remained the dominant supplier, shipping 5,644 tons worth $4 million to Georgia, followed by Turkmenistan, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Jordan.
On the export side, Georgia saw higher revenues but lower volumes. In Q1 2026, tomato exports totaled $1.49 million and 973 tons, compared to $1.36 million and 1,004 tons a year earlier. Export value rose by 10.4%, while volume fell by 3%, indicating a rise in the average export price of Georgian tomatoes.
Armenia remains the main destination for Georgian tomatoes, importing 848 tons worth $1.36 million. Smaller volumes were also exported to Russia, totaling 125 tons valued at $142,000.
