Georgia will invest GEL 1 billion in the development and modernization of its railway network, Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili announced in Batumi.

According to the minister, the government has launched a historic railway development program that includes major reforms and infrastructure upgrades aimed at strengthening the country's transport sector and supporting economic growth.

Kvrivishvili said the investment will increase the railway's freight capacity while also improving passenger infrastructure and services. The modernization program is intended to enhance transport efficiency and provide better travel conditions for both domestic and international passengers.

She added that the ongoing reforms will boost Georgia's railway competitiveness and improve the quality of services offered across the network.
