Georgia will spend GEL 2.28 billion on servicing its existing external debt in 2027, according to the initial budget draft published by the Finance Ministry. Of this amount, GEL 1.49 billion will go toward principal repayments and GEL 794 million toward interest payments. At the same time, the government plans to take on GEL 2.07 billion in new external loans.
The 2026 external debt service budget was GEL 3.64 billion, including $500 million allocated to repay a previous sovereign Eurobond. However, the government issued a new $500 million Eurobond in spring, effectively refinancing the debt. Excluding the Eurobond repayment, the 2026 budget for servicing other external debt stood at GEL 2.26 billion, nearly the same as the 2027 plan.
In 2027, the government will make its largest external debt service payments to the World Bank Group, totaling GEL 600.7 million. Of this, GEL 348.5 million will cover principal repayments and GEL 252.2 million will go toward interest.
The Asian Development Bank will receive the second-largest amount, with Georgia’s planned payments totaling GEL 599 million. The figures are included in the Finance Ministry’s initial 2027 budget proposal.
