Georgian Air Navigation (Sakaeronavigatsia) will fully upgrade the lighting and navigation systems on the runway of Kutaisi International Airport, according to Levan Karanadze, Chairman of the company’s Supervisory Board.
Karanadze said the project includes the installation of modern navigation infrastructure, new meteorological stations, and an upgraded instrument landing system. The renewed systems will comply with both ICAO standards and European Union regulations.
He noted that the ongoing runway project is one of the most significant infrastructure developments in independent Georgia’s history, as it includes the construction of the country’s longest runway at 3,600 meters.
The project also includes the development and validation of new standard departure and arrival procedures. According to Karanadze, the procedures have already been tested and validated using a specialized aircraft laboratory, ensuring safer and more efficient airport operations.
