Georgia’s Infrastructure Minister Revaz Sokhadze says recent changes to public procurement rules have created more opportunities for Georgian companies to participate in major international tenders. According to the minister, local firms and Georgian-led consortia have already taken part in several large-scale international procurement processes, although no Georgian company has won a tender so far.
“Following the changes we introduced to tender conditions several months ago, Georgian companies were given this opportunity. We already have cases where Georgian companies and Georgian consortia have participated in major international tenders. Unfortunately, we do not yet have a winner in this direction, but we are actively working to change that,” Sokhadze said.
The minister noted that developing stronger domestic construction companies remains one of the government’s key objectives. He said increasing the competitiveness of Georgian firms and enabling them to compete for larger projects is an important part of the sector’s development strategy.
Sokhadze made the comments during a public-private dialogue meeting organized by the government and the Infrastructure Construction Companies Association (ICCA), where ongoing legislative and systemic reforms in the infrastructure sector were discussed. The meeting focused on the new price indexation framework, recommended market prices for construction resources and labor, and updated regulations related to infrastructure project procurement.
