Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili met the acting Polish Ambassador to Georgia, Mariusz Pietrzak, at the Ministry on Monday. During the meeting, the Georgian side expressed concern about the incident involving a Polish doctor.

“Georgian side reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the public has complete information about Mikheil Saakashvili’s health and repeatedly expressed readiness to admit foreign doctors to the clinic if the family desires it. It is evidenced by the visit of Polish doctors to the convicted Saakashvili with the family’s petition and the support of the Polish Embassy, despite the fact that the convicted Saakashvili was refused to be transferred to Poland for treatment by the decision of the Strasbourg Court.

During the meeting, the Georgian side emphasized that the behaviour of one of the doctors included in the Polish medical mission causes misunderstanding and undermines the entire process’s credibility. The Polish diplomat was asked to comment on the incident. The diplomat stated that he was not informed about details that might explain the doctor’s behaviour,” the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

The Special Penitentiary Service on July 14 released a statement and video footage showing a Polish doctor “trying to sneak out the paper-wrapped sample taken from the jailed ex-president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili in his shoes.”
