Vakhushti Bagrationi and Chairman of the Roads Department, Levan Darakhvelidze, inspected the progress of the new bridge construction alongside the existing Aragvi bridge at the 26th kilometre of the strategically significant Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, active work is ongoing.
“Currently, three of the four piers for the new bridge have been substantially completed, the foundations laid, and the project is on track to be finished by the end of the year. The original bridge in this section was constructed in 1973. Its carriageway frequently sustains damage, necessitating periodic repairs. These repairs temporarily restrict traffic on the main highway, causing inconvenience to the public.
An assessment of the existing bridge has revealed that rehabilitation alone will not ensure its full restoration; more extensive works are required, which would entail closing the bridge for over a year. Given that there is no alternative route and such restrictions would cause significant delays, a project for the construction of a new bridge over the Aragvi River was swiftly prepared, and construction has now commenced. The public is expected to be able to utilise the new bridge next year.
The project is being implemented by the Roads Department of the Ministry of Infrastructure, with an estimated cost of GEL 20 million,” the Ministry stated.
