Georgian PM Met Azerbaijan Defence Minister

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, Defense Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, who was visiting Tbilisi within the scope of a Tripartite Defense Ministerial, - the government’s press service reported.

Meeting held at the Government Administration focused on the strategic partnership existing between Georgia and Azerbaijan, regional security and successful implementation of joint projects. Also, focus was made on the cooperation in the field of defense, along with prospects of development in future. The Head of Government of Georgia thanked the visiting cabinet minister for the unwavering support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and reaffirmed the support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

It was noted that the Georgian side welcomes the peaceful resolution of the conflict and stands ready to support the dialogue to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Discussion was also related to bilateral cooperation successfully implemented in various directions. Significance of energy and transport routes going through Azerbaijan and Georgia were highlighted for the energy security of Europe. Focus was made on the cooperation of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey in a tripartite format, which is a unique regional mechanism, ensuring a platform for discussion on key topics at the level of senior government officials, foreign ministers, defense ministers and other institutions.

Meeting held at the Government Administration was attended by Juansher Burchuladze, Minister of Defense of Georgia and H.E. Faig Guliyev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Georgia.
