Georgian Railway has launched a GEL 2.78 million (excluding VAT) tender for the design and rehabilitation of the railway station and platform in Akhaltsikhe. The project will be implemented using a Design-Build model, meaning the winning company will be responsible both for designing and constructing the facility.
The project covers an area of about 2,850 square meters and includes the renovation of a 300 sq. m station building as well as the construction of a 120-meter-long and 5-meter-wide platform. The upgraded station will feature waiting halls, ticket offices, security and staff rooms, restrooms (including facilities adapted for persons with disabilities), elevators, and modern safety and utility systems.
The tender requires strict technical and experience qualifications. Bidders must have completed at least GEL 200,000 in design services and GEL 5 million in construction or rehabilitation works on civil infrastructure projects since 2022. The selected contractor may receive an advance payment of up to 30% of the contract value, backed by a bank or insurance guarantee.
According to the schedule, design sketches must be submitted within 10 days of contract signing, full documentation within 45 days, and construction is expected to take 5 months after approval. The project follows earlier government announcements that the long-closed Akhaltsikhe railway line is being restored, with reduced travel time between Tbilisi and Akhaltsikhe expected after completion.
