Georgia’s energy system will add more than 300 MW of new renewable capacity in 2026, Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said.
According to Kvrivishvili, construction of three hydropower plants and one wind power project has already been completed this year. By the end of 2026, another hydropower plant, two wind projects and three solar projects are expected to become operational.
“This year alone, more than 300 MW of new renewable capacity will be added to Georgia’s energy system. This momentum is continuing,” Kvrivishvili said at an event marking Energy Workers’ Day.
She also said that in 2027, 12 power plant projects with a combined capacity of more than 70 MW are expected to become operational, backed by around $100 million in investment. In addition, with support from the Asian Development Bank, procurement of a 250 MW energy storage battery system was completed this year. Construction will begin in 2026 and be completed in 2029, supporting the stability and security of the power system and expanding the capacity to integrate renewable energy.
