Georgia’s National Forestry Agency reports that 72 cases of illegal timber harvesting and transportation were identified in April alone. In total, authorities confiscated up to 76 cubic meters of illegally cut firewood and construction timber, which has been stored in the agency’s designated facilities.
Illegal logging was detected across multiple regions, including 13 cases in Imereti, 4 in Samtskhe-Javakheti, 4 in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti, 20 in Kvemo Kartli, 15 in Kakheti, 2 in Mtskheta-Mtianeti, 9 in Guria, 1 in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, and 4 in Shida Kartli.
The agency also noted that 9 of the cases show signs of criminal offenses and have been referred to law enforcement authorities for further investigation.
