Geostat will study new sectors in 2021. The National Statistics Office of Georgia intends to monitor specific areas of the unobserved economy, such as transport and healthcare. Last year, Geostat surveyed education and real estate sectors.
Gogita Todradze, the head of Geostat, explains how the agency chooses areas from the unobserved economy. According to him, the choice of the sector depends on the high probability of an unobserved economy in the relevant sector.
"We consider that the probability of an unobserved economy in these two sectors can be high and we have decided to monitor healthcare and transport," said Gogita Todradze.
According to him, during the research, Geostat will focus on the amount of money spent by the population on healthcare and the revenues received by healthcare facilities.
"In the field of transport, we will pay special attention to the revenue of taxis. We will also study population’s expenses in this direction,” said Gogita Todradze.
