“Big respect and thanks to all who came out last night in Tbilisi to show gratitude to Germany and solidarity with me,” German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, posted on social media.
According to the German Ambassador, Georgia has an EU calling.
“Thanks for demanding an end to attacks on foreign diplomats and recognition of our contribution to Georgia’s democracy and European path. Georgia has an EU calling. Germany and the European Union are here for that,” Peter Fischer posted.
On September 24, the German Ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. According to the Ministry, during the meeting the Georgian side reminded the ambassador that under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, diplomats are not permitted to interfere in the internal affairs of the host country. Georgian officials also expressed concern over what they described as attempts to promote a radical agenda and politicize judicial processes, pointing in particular to the participation of foreign diplomats in such matters.
Before entering the Ministry, the German ambassador told TV Pirveli that the summons itself represents a form of diplomatic sanction, noting that this was the first instance of such a measure in the history of Georgian-German relations.
