The Ministry of Environment of Armenia, represented by Deputy Minister Aram Meimaryan, and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Armenia, led by Karen Manvelyan, have signed a consultancy agreement for the "Protected Areas and Biodiversity" component of the "Biodiversity and Sustainable Local Development in Armenia" program.
The signing ceremony on July 12 was attended by the Chargé d'Affaires of Germany, Eric Tintrup, the Director of the Armenian office of the Caucasus Nature Fund, Arman Vermishyan, as well as heads of the ministry’s departments and media representatives.
Deputy Minister Aram Meimaryan highlighted the continuous support from Germany, which has enabled the implementation of important environmental initiatives, and emphasized that Armenia has always relied on the assistance of the German government in addressing ecological issues.
Launched in 2018, the program has a total budget of €26.2 million provided by Germany as a grant. It includes four key areas: biodiversity and protected areas, sustainable forestry, local community development, and sustainable financing of protected areas. The program aims to achieve sustainable management of natural resources and improve the socio-economic conditions of nearby communities.
