The Georgian government has postponed the deadline for the GEL 932 million tender for the 22.5-km Tbilisi bypass highway (Avchala–Airport section) to June 1. The tender, announced in February 2026, was originally scheduled to conclude on April 15, then delayed to May 8, and has now been postponed again. Officials said the extensions were requested by participating companies, which said they needed additional time to prepare proposals.

The project covers two main segments: a 5.8-km Avchala–Gldani section and a 16.7-km Gldani–Airport section. The planned highway will have four lanes and include complex infrastructure such as 16 bridges, four parallel tunnels, and four transport interchanges. The route starts near the Avchala railway bridge and ends near the Lilo market area.

Meanwhile, the tender for the second lot of the project - the 7.3-km Tsitsamuri–Avchala section -has already been completed. Ten companies submitted bids, but none offered a price below the estimated GEL 490 million project cost. The proposals ranged from GEL 520 million to GEL 952 million.

The Ministry is currently evaluating these bids, while preparations continue for the remaining sections of the bypass highway project.
