The Government of Georgia has extended the acceptance of proposals for Anaklia Port for investors by one month. Interested candidates can submit qualification requirements until June 19. Also, the final deadline for submitting proposals was postponed until July 28 instead of July 17.
It is not known whether there are investors interested in the Anaklia port project. As of April 30, no official application had been submitted to the Agency of Anaklia Deepwater Port Development, while the government plans to start port construction this fall, under new conditions that mean the state will own a 51% stake in the port.
Last week, the Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili, told TV-program Analytics, that the investor will have responsibility for attracting the cargo.
"If the operator cannot guarantee cargo traffic, then it makes no sense to have a private operator here, while the state can attract credit financing at twice lower interest rate", - said Khutsishvili.
At the same time, two arbitration disputes are continued with the previous investor of the project, "Anaklia Development Consortium", which indicates that due to the destructive actions of the government, they were deprived of the opportunity to develop the project.
