Gov't Had Reliable Information - Kobakhidze On The Statement About Italy, Spain And Romania

ირაკლი კობახიძე

Kaja Kallas stated that there were Hungary, Slovakia, Luxembourg and several other countries that opposed the sanctions. As for Romania, your colleague, Mr. Jozwiak, whom you often rely on and everyone relies on, confirmed this information regarding Romania, - Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists at the government administration, explaining on what basis he thanked the five countries that, according to him, “voiced a position in support of the Georgian people at the EU Council”.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, the government had reliable, trustworthy information and the statement was made based on that information. In addition, according to Kobakhidze, he once again thanks all countries for their support to the Georgian people.

“This topic was followed by speculations. I made a statement yesterday, I thanked 5 countries for their support to the Georgian people, and yesterday three of these countries stubbornly claimed that they had not even considered supporting the Georgian people. In fact, you can see Ms. Kaja Kallas' statement, where she mentioned Hungary, Slovakia, Luxembourg, I unfortunately did not mention Luxembourg, and Luxembourg also deserves thanks, if they do not deny this position of theirs. Thank you for your support to the Georgian people. Kaja Kallas stated that there were Hungary, Slovakia, Luxembourg and several other countries that went against the sanctions, and of course, I thank once again these countries for their support. As for other countries, what information did we have - for example, if we take Romania, there is one of the journalists of the European Bureau of Radio Liberty, whom the Georgian media often relies on, this is Mr. Jozwiak, who confirmed that Romania was one of those who went against the sanctions, however, then we saw that Romania was forced to take the opposite position. This does not surprise anyone, you saw that even the Constitutional Court in Romania was forced to change its decision in one day. Mr. Matthew Miller came out, who practically made a threatening statement to the Romanian Constitutional Court. He stated that anyone who opposed European or Euro-Atlantic values in Romania would be punished, and he did this precisely in the context of the Constitutional Court's decision. The next day, the Constitutional Court reversed its decision, and annulled the presidential elections in Romania. And for a completely unspecified reason. The point was that certain activities recorded on Twitter created the perception that the elections in Romania were held against the backdrop of external interference. That is, a direct threat was spread by Matthew Miller, and the next day the Constitutional Court in Romania completely, radically changed its decision. Against this background, no one is surprised that Romania was forced to make a statement that was the opposite of their actions towards Georgia. The same applies to Spain and Italy, information was circulating in public sources that Italy and Spain opposed the idea of sanctions, and this coincided with the information received from our sources. Accordingly, we made a statement that was based on very reliable and trustworthy information, although you can see that this was also followed by speculations from the opposition. I would like to once again thank all the countries that supported Georgia at the Council meeting," Kobakhidze said.
