The Georgian government may allocate additional budget funds for the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project by the end of 2026, First Deputy Finance Minister Giorgi Kakauridze said. He did not specify the amount, noting that the project is progressing well.
The 2026 budget allocates GEL 53 million for the port’s infrastructure, but only GEL 300,000 was spent in the first half of the year, against a planned GEL 1.6 million. Kakauridze said payments to contractor Jan De Nul are expected later, with about $40 million worth of work already completed.
Jan De Nul signed a $150 million contract for seabed dredging and began intensive work in Anaklia this summer. A second company vessel recently joined the project.
Since July, the government has planned to build the port under a revised model, replacing private construction with state financing. It expects to mobilize about $200 million from international donors, while private operators are expected to invest another $350-400 million in terminal infrastructure under long-term leases.
