The Georgian government will soon announce an international tender for the construction of the most significant section of the Tbilisi Bypass – the 22.5-kilometer Avchala–Airport segment, Infrastructure Minister Revaz Sokhadze said.

The preliminary estimated cost of the tender is $310 million (over 835 million GEL), although the exact amount will be confirmed once the tender is officially announced.

Earlier, on December 30, 2025, the government announced the tender for the 7.3-kilometer Tsistamuri–Avchala section, which includes the construction of two parallel 3.4-kilometer tunnels. The estimated cost of this project is 490 million GEL. Minister Sokhadze also noted that the tender for the Lilo–Lochini section will be announced later this year.

“The Tbilisi Bypass is extremely important both for ensuring continuity along the central corridor and for relieving traffic congestion in the capital,” Sokhadze said.

The bypass project consists of several construction lots. The third lot, the longest and most expensive, covers the Avchala–Airport 22.5 km section. Most of this segment will follow the former bypass railway route, utilizing four existing tunnels (totaling 3.6 km) and a 921-meter bridge. Additionally, four new tunnels totaling 3.8 km will be constructed, along with a new 928-meter bridge parallel to the Avchala bridge.

Other sections include:

  • Tzitamuri–Avchala (7.3 km): Two parallel 3.4 km tunnels, estimated cost 490 million GEL.
  • Airport–Lochini (10.4 km): Estimated cost $100 million.
  • Lochini–Rustavi (11 km): Estimated cost $70 million.
