Gov't to Spend GEL 13.4 MLN on Printing School Textbooks This Year

სახელმძღვანელო

The Georgian government will spend GEL 13.4 million on printing state-approved school textbooks in 2026. The Procurement Agency has already announced two tenders: one worth GEL 7.4 million for textbooks and supplementary materials, and another worth GEL 5.9 million for exercise books.

According to the tender documents, the government plans to print 1,740,200 textbooks across various grades and subjects, along with 2,249,919 exercise books. Bidders may submit their proposals from March 18 to March 19 for both tenders.

Suppliers selected through the process will be required to deliver the printed books to Educational Resource Centers and public schools in Tbilisi between June 20 and August 1, 2026. The staged delivery is meant to ensure schools receive materials ahead of the new academic year.

The new tenders come as Georgia transitions toward a unified national textbook model. Amendments passed last month require the Ministry of Education to create a single state-developed textbook for every subject and grade, to be provided to students free of charge. This reform is expected to be completed by 2028. Until then, the government will continue printing textbooks authored by various publishers and distributing them free to public school students - a policy first introduced in 2013 to ease the financial burden on families.
