GWP says it managed to maintain water supply with minimal disruption despite the nationwide power outage that occurred late at night. Technical and Operations Director Giga Nadiradze said the company used available system reserves to overcome the crisis.
According to Nadiradze, the impact on water services was limited because the outage happened overnight, when water demand is lower, and the interruption did not last long. Full water supply was restored by the morning.
He said the company's emergency measures allowed the system to continue operating, enabling the city to resume normal water service at full capacity.
The cause of the nationwide blackout remains unknown. Georgia’s State Electrosystem said it is investigating the incident, while Abkhazia’s de facto Energy Ministry claimed the outage was linked to a “system accident” at the Enguri hydropower plant.
