The average monthly nominal earnings in Georgia during Q3 2020 increased by 1.8 percent (GEL 22.4) compared to the same quarter of the prior year and amounted to GEL 1,239.5. With GEL 2, 150.6 information and communication has topped the list of the highest-paying fields in Georgia.
In Q3 2020, the average earnings equaled to GEL 978.1 for women, while GEL 1 472.5 for men. The annual growth of earnings amounted to GEL 54.0 for women, while that decreased by GEL 3.2 for men. In the majority of sectors of the economy the average monthly earnings of men were higher compared to women, the latest report of the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat) says.
According to the economic activity the highest monthly earnings were observed in the following fields: information and communication – GEL 2 150.6 (increased by 9.8 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year), financial and insurance activities – GEL 2 023.6 (increased –by 6.6 percent), professional, scientific and technical activities – GEL 1 909.7 (decreased by 1.4 percent) and construction – GEL 1 875.8 (decreased by 6.6 percent).
The average monthly earnings of hired employees in the non-business and financial sector increased by GEL 88.8 in the Q3 2020 compared to the same quarter of the previous year and amounted to GEL 1, 130.8. According to the economic activity the highest monthly earnings were observed in the Financial and insurance activities.
According to GeoStat, the active population (labor force) in Georgia was 1 847.7 thousand persons as of Q3 2020, out of them 1 628.7 thousand persons were employed and 219 000 unemployed. The Georgian unemployment rate stood at 11.9% during Q3 2020.
