Georgian poultry farms hold more than 10 million hens, which lay more than 600 million eggs in a year, - show the preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
As the statistics show, local production in Georgia fully meets the demand.
According to a Geostat report, egg production fell by 5% to 638 million in 2021.
In 2021, Georgia exported 310 tons of eggs worth of USD 1.2 million, while imports also amounted to USD 1.2 million.
Geostat also studied prices along with production volume. According to the report, as of 2020, the wholesale price was 24 tetri per egg. In this regard, prices in 2017-2020 were virtually unchanged. However, in 2021 there was an increase in prices in the wholesale market. So far, no new price statistics were published by Geostat.
The production of eggs and poultry products as a whole is heavily dependent on imported barley and other foods, which Georgia buys mainly from countries in the region, including Ukraine. The war started by Russia dealt a significant blow to the supply chains of these goods.
