ბაქო-თბილისი-ჯეიჰანი

The transit of Kazakh oil via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline has resumed, - according to the Azerbaijani state news agency Trend. On September 13, 8,800 tons of oil were loaded at Kazakhstan’s Aktau port for transportation through BTC, with the next shipment scheduled for September 20. In total, 0.9 million tons of Kazakh oil were transported through the pipeline in the first eight months of the year.

The oil transit agreement between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas was signed in 2022, after Russia artificially restricted operations of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). For years, Kazakh oil reached Western markets mainly through Russia’s Black Sea port of Novorossiysk via CPC.

According to the Azerbaijani Statistics Service, BTC transported 18.356 million tons of oil during the January–August period, down 5.3% year-on-year. Of this, over 84% was Azerbaijani oil, while 15.7% originated from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
