According to preliminary data from Geostat, in 2024 Georgia produced 83.7 thousand tons of meat. The figure has increased by 6.4% annually.
Production has been increasing since 2021, although the figure has not changed dramatically. This includes: beef, pork, sheep, goat and poultry meat.
It is worth noting that the highest meat production rate until last year has been observed in 2006 - 83.3 thousand tons.
According to official statistics, meat consumption per capita is 45 kilograms per year. The figure is increasing, as in 2022 it was 40 kg, which increased to 45 kg in 2023.
As of 2023 data, the meat self-sufficiency rate is 47%. This is below the 50% mark for 2024. The highest meat self-sufficiency rate was 52% in 2018.
As for export-import indicators, Georgia buys much more meat than it sells.
In 2023, meat imports were 108.7 thousand tons (an annual increase of 7.5%), while exports were 18.2 thousand tons (an annual decrease of 30.5%).
