The Ministry of Finance has published tax revenue statistics for January 2025. According to these statistics, tax collection totaled GEL 1.82 billion in January of the current year.
The tax volume increased by GEL 180 million compared to the same period last year. However, the amount received in the central budget, specifically from value-added tax, decreased. In January, a total of GEL 644 million in VAT entered the central budget, a decrease of GEL 14 million y-o-y.
Along with VAT, excise tax has also decreased, with GEL 110 million entering the budget, which is a decrease of GEL 68 million year-over-year. The decline in excise tax is due to the increase in tobacco excise tax from January 2025, which led companies to reserve tobacco in advance, consequently causing the excise volume to decrease in January.
