“I blamed the government and representatives of the Georgian Dream for the low point in German-Georgian relations,” wrote German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer on social media.
“It was the first case when the German Ambassador was summoned to the MFA. I rebuffed the groundless attacks against me in detail, and I blamed the government and representatives of the Georgian Dream for the new low point in German-Georgian relations. Their actions and rhetoric caused this, and they are blocking the path leading to the European Union. They did not want to listen. I am not a radical. Germany remains a friend of Georgia,” he wrote.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia (MFA) has summoned the German Ambassador following concerns about alleged political interference in the host country’s internal affairs.
“The Ambassador was reminded that, in accordance with Article 41, Paragraph 1 of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, members of a diplomatic mission are required to respect the laws and regulations of the host country and must refrain from interfering in its internal affairs,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
German Foreign Office posted on the X Platform saying: “German Ambassador represents the position of the Federal Government and acts in full compliance with the Vienna Convention.”
