Georgian Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Mariam Kvirkvishvili has met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during an official visit to Azerbaijan, with both sides agreeing to continue work on new strategic projects.
According to the Economy Ministry, the parties reaffirmed “the good neighbourly and strategic partnership” between the two countries during the meeting.
Kvirkvishvili thanked Azerbaijan for supporting Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
The officials discussed the importance of Georgian-Azerbaijani cooperation in various directions to ensure stability and development in the South Caucasus region, with particular attention paid to bilateral and regional economic projects.
“Special emphasis was placed on strengthening trade and economic relations between the countries. The meeting noted that collaboration on strategic projects between Georgia and Azerbaijan positively affects economic indicators and attracts additional investments in sectors including green energy, transport and logistics, information technology, and communications.
Particular focus was given to strategic projects such as the energy cable [Black Sea Submarine Cable Project], which will promote deeper cooperation in the energy sector. Attention was also drawn to the significance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, which is in its final phase and will significantly increase the transit potential of both Georgia and Azerbaijan.
The parties agreed to continue work and take concrete steps towards implementing new strategic projects that will promote strategic infrastructure development and increase connectivity between the two countries.
The meeting highlighted cooperation in tourism, noting that Azerbaijan represents a strategic tourist market for Georgia.
Security challenges facing the world and region were also discussed, with emphasis placed on the importance of peace and stability in overcoming these challenges,” the Ministry noted.
Georgian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zurab Pataradze also attended the meeting.
