Georgia’s National Food Agency has detected an illegal sale of pesticides and agrochemicals in Kutaisi. Inspectors from the agency’s Imereti department conducted an unscheduled inspection of a sales outlet at 67 Chavchavadze Avenue and suspended its operations after identifying violations.

According to the agency, the outlet was selling pesticides and agrochemicals without the required registration and recognition issued by the agency. The business operator was fined in accordance with the law and prohibited from selling agrochemicals until the relevant requirements are met.

The National Food Agency said specialized outlets selling pesticides and agrochemicals must obtain recognition from the agency in accordance with established procedures. The process includes meeting sanitary, hygiene and safety requirements.

The agency said it continues active monitoring to protect farmers’ interests and ensure quality pesticides are available on the market. It also called on business operators to comply with all legally established requirements.
