Medicines are one of the largest commodity groups in Georgia's imported goods list. However, in January 2025, the import of packaged medicines decreased.
According to official statistics, during this period Georgia purchased 1002 tons of medicines worth USD 48 million 135 thousand, which was 20.2% less in volume and 33.6% less in value compared to January 2024 imports.
The decrease in packaged medicine imports is mainly due to the decline in imports from the main supplier country - Turkey. In January, the value of medicines imported from Turkey decreased from USD 20 million to USD 13 million, and a total of 338 tons of medicines entered the country, while in the same period last year the volume was 732 tons. This is the first case of decline in the last 5 years.
