During the first two months of the current year, the internal trade turnover in Armenia increased by 24.1%, reaching 750 billion Armenian drams (approximately $2 billion). This is according to data published by the Statistical Committee of the Republic.
According to Statistical Committee, in February 2024, this figure amounted to 408 billion drams (over $1 billion), which is 28.3% higher than in February 2023 and 21% higher than in January 2024.
Wholesale trade remained the leading segment, with a turnover of 477 billion drams (over $1.2 billion), accounting for 63.7% of the total volume. This figure increased by 37.7% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Retail trade reached 243 billion drams (over $600 million), accounting for 32.5% of the total volume, and increased by 7.2%. Meanwhile, automobile trade decreased by 7.5%, reaching 28 billion drams (over $70 million).
Within the retail trade sector, the majority of turnover (81.7%) was attributed to stores, which generated 198 billion drams (over $500 million), an increase of 8.8% compared to the previous year. Markets for consumer goods and agricultural products also demonstrated growth, reaching 10 billion ($25 million) and 2 billion drams ($5 million) respectively.
Kiosks and other trading facilities showed mixed results, with slight growth or decline in turnover.
Earlier, BMG reported that in Armenia, for January-February 2024, the growth of economic activity compared to the same period last year was 13.6%. In February alone, this figure increased by an additional 16.3%.
