In January, 73% Of The Applications Received For Consumer Rights Protection Were About Online Trade

In January 2024, the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency has received 60 applications in the direction of the protection of consumer rights.

In the mentioned period, according to the Agency’s decision, 1 facts of violation of the rights of the consumer group were confirmed. Due to non-fulfillment of the obligation imposed by the Agency, 2 traders were fined 1,200 GEL. The Agency signed 13 commitment agreements in favour of the consumer in 14 cases. This means that the traders have made an obligation - to change its internal policy and to restore the rights of those consumers who allegedly suffered damages due to the trader’s policy in the past.

73% of the applications received by the consumer refer to online trading, and 27% to the case of purchasing the item on the spot. According to regions, Tbilisi continues to lead with 92%, followed by Kvemo Khartli with 4%, Shida Khartli with 2% and Guria 2%.

According to the received applications, the repair or return of a defective item is 17, 14 for restoring the right to the defective service, the demand for a refund is 14, withdrawal from a contract without giving any reason is 6, 4 for items delivered within the specified time frame, and the rest is 5.

In the reporting period, according to the received applications, 76% is the wholesale and retail sector, transport and warehousing 13%, arts, entertainment and leisure 2%, health care and social services 2%, and 7% other activities.
