Infrastructure Minister Revaz Sokhadze said that there are certain issues identified in the construction of the 17-kilometer Sagarejo–Badiuri highway section, and the contractor must address them as soon as possible. He stressed that the ministry will take a strict stance on quality control.
“Today we once again reviewed the progress of the Sagarejo–Badiuri highway construction on site. Together with the contractor, we discussed the existing challenges in detail. I want to emphasize that we will be uncompromising on quality. At this stage, there are certain remarks that the company must correct in the shortest possible time. Relevant instructions have already been given,” Sokhadze said, noting that works are ongoing.
The project, financed by the World Bank with 276.8 million GEL, is being implemented by Turkish company Gocay Insaat Taahhut ve Ticaret. The 4-lane expressway is expected to be completed this year and includes bridges, overpasses, drainage systems, and a new transport hub near Badiuri.
According to the ministry, the highway will bypass five densely populated villages, reduce travel distance by 2 kilometers, cut travel time nearly in half, and significantly improve traffic capacity and safety in the region.
