Georgia’s Infrastructure Minister Revaz Sokhadze says some delays in infrastructure projects continue despite stricter quality control policies. Speaking on Rustavi 2, he said the government is focused on improving project implementation and ensuring higher construction standards.
Sokhadze noted that recent reforms in the infrastructure sector aim to increase transparency, address long-standing problems, and improve the quality of completed projects. He said contractors must fix any identified defects at their own expense, adding that the state’s requirements for construction quality have become significantly stricter.
The minister emphasized that winning a government tender does not mean a project will be accepted regardless of quality. He said the government will remain uncompromising and will protect public interests by requiring contractors to meet the highest standards.
According to Sokhadze, cost efficiency is not only about completing projects at the lowest price but also about ensuring long-term value. He said infrastructure should be built to last for decades, and companies unable to meet quality and deadline requirements will not be allowed to participate in future state projects.
