Intercity passenger transport fares have increased on several routes, with ticket prices rising by GEL 5, according to the “Okriba” bus station. Station lawyer Paata Kvavadze told BM.GE that the price hike has been driven mainly by rising fuel costs and began after the Easter holidays.
He said the increase currently applies to routes from the Didube “Okriba” station to Zugdidi, Chiatura, and Bakuriani, where fares have gone up by GEL 5. Kvavadze noted that some other stations had already adjusted prices earlier, while “Okriba” followed with a delay.
According to him, no changes have been reported for other destinations so far, as transport operators have not yet officially submitted updated pricing notices. Therefore, tickets on those routes are still being sold at previous rates.
Kvavadze also explained that under new regulations, bus stations no longer set prices directly. Instead, transport operators submit justification for fare changes — such as fuel price increases — and stations formally approve and implement the updated tariffs through ticket sales systems.
