Georgian bakery producer Ipkli Digomi is maintaining steady bread exports to Israel while preparing to enter the Chinese market, the company's Marketing Manager Sophio Bediashvili told BM.GE. The company currently exports around 80 tons of bread per month to Israel, shipping two refrigerated 40-ton containers each month to a local partner, which distributes the products under the Ipkli Digomi brand through major retail chains.
Bediashvili said export volumes may temporarily decline during the summer due to seasonal drops in bread consumption, both in Georgia and abroad. She noted that Ipkli Digomi was the first Georgian company to begin exporting traditional Georgian bread, describing the initiative as both a commercial venture and an effort to promote Georgian products internationally.
According to the company, exported products are sold at the same price as on the domestic market. Bediashvili added that international studies rank Georgia among the countries with the most affordable bread prices, helping support the competitiveness of Georgian products abroad.
Looking ahead, Ipkli Digomi is working to expand its export geography by entering China. The company has already presented its products to Chinese partners, who showed particular interest in its low-calorie, diabetic-friendly, and specialty breads. Discussions are currently focused on logistics and partnerships with local retail chains. According to official statistics, Georgia exported 1,453 tons of bakery products worth $5.3 million during the first five months of 2026, up 87.8% in value and 68.9% in volume compared with the same period a year earlier.
