Georgia’s progress in various areas, including crisis management, cyber security, military engineering and secure communications, was welcomed on Wednesday by Jens Stoltenberg, the NATO Secretary General, in his comments at the press briefing with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.
Stoltenberg said the partnership between NATO and Georgia and the prospects of further developing it would be discussed at the meeting with Kobakhidze, who is visiting Brussels on his first official foreign visit.
NATO Sec Gen congratulated Georgia on gaining the European Union membership candidate status in December 2023 and stressed the importance for Georgia to continue to “step up domestic reforms and uphold democratic values”.
We want to see Georgia move in the right direction. Toward more democracy and prosperity. Toward full membership in the Euro-Atlantic family”, he added.
Stoltenberg pledged that NATO would continue to “stand by your [Georgia’s] side as you work toward fulfilling those aspirations”.
