Kakha Bekauri has left the Communications Commission after 12 years of service, as his term as chair officially expired this year. Bekauri first joined the regulator in 2014 as a member and was elected chair in 2017, serving two consecutive terms. He has been replaced on the commission by Goga Gulordava, while the election for the new chair is scheduled for January 29, according to the agency.
In addition to heading the commission, Bekauri is a co-founder and 33% shareholder of “Ori Nabiji,” one of Georgia’s largest supermarket chains. His latest asset declaration, filed in July 2025, shows that his primary income source is dividends from the company - 20.5 million GEL in 2024, which is 2.3 million more than the 18.2 million GEL received in 2023. Between 2020 and 2024, Bekauri earned a total of 66 million GEL in dividends from the chain.
Bekauri had no challengers in the 2023 leadership election. Before his regulatory career, he held several high-profile positions in the media sector: head of “Ninth Channel” (2012), director of “Maestro” TV (2010–2011), first deputy chairman of the Public Broadcaster (2004–2005), and director of “Mze” TV (2002–2003).
Bekauri’s departure marks the end of his long tenure at ComCom, where he served first as a member and then as chair for nine years. The commission will elect its new head next week.
