Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has instructed the municipal audit office and his deputies to investigate alleged defects in the recently renovated Avlabari metro station, after reports that water was leaking into the station during heavy rain.
Kaladze said the situation is unacceptable, noting that during bad weather the renovated infrastructure failed and water entered the station, causing significant inconvenience. The rehabilitation project cost around 4.2 million GEL and was carried out through a simplified procurement process by the company “Bada Construction.”
According to the mayor, it is still unclear whether the responsibility lies with the contractor, supervisory bodies, or acceptance procedures. He stressed that the issue harms the reputation of the municipality and must be thoroughly examined.
Kaladze added that all responsible companies working on municipal projects must ensure higher quality standards, emphasizing that infrastructure is expected to last for decades. The Avlabari metro rehabilitation, which began in 2022 and was scheduled to last eight months, was ultimately completed in 2024 after a 28-month delay.
