Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze pushed back against claims of rising food prices, stating he could personally show that 10 eggs can be bought for 4.60 GEL and half a kilogram of beef or pork for 10 GEL. He made the remarks in response to a journalist’s question about whether he or his family members had recently visited a market amid ongoing price concerns.
Kobakhidze argued that inflation is not increasing but rather slowing down, though he acknowledged the government is still working to reduce prices further. He noted that a special commission studying prices is expected to finalize its work this week, with the government set to present a detailed plan shortly after.
When asked about his own shopping habits, the Prime Minister said he monitors prices through websites, insisting that the cost of essential goods has remained stable compared to a month ago. He questioned reports of price increases, specifically citing products like eggs and butter.
During the exchange, Kobakhidze invited the journalist to visit a store together to verify prices firsthand, repeating his claim that he could demonstrate the lower costs. He added that the findings of the price-monitoring commission and the government’s next steps will be made public next week.
