Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has responded to concerns about the potential suspension of Georgia’s visa-free travel with the European Union, asserting that his government maintains “proper communication with everyone” on the matter.

The remarks came after EU foreign ministers discussed Georgia during a meeting in Brussels, amid growing criticism of the ruling Georgian Dream party’s recent policies. When asked whether he feels responsible for visa liberalization being placed on the EU’s agenda, Kobakhidze deflected blame, pointing instead to what he described as a deeper issue within the EU itself.

“Whatever statements are being made point to a serious value crisis that is obvious in the European bureaucracy,” the Prime Minister said. “We hope that the situation in Europe will improve, both economically and politically. We still aim to become a full EU member by 2030.”

When pressed about whether any concrete diplomatic steps had been taken to prevent visa-free travel from being suspended, Kobakhidze reiterated, “We have proper communication with everyone. The blackmail must end. This is our call to everyone. What I am saying now is also communication.”
