European Union enlargement remains one of Georgia’s main priorities, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said during the EU Enlargement Summit organized by Euronews in Brussels.

According to the Prime Minister’s press office, Kobakhidze stressed that Georgia’s Constitution enshrines the country’s ambition to become a full member of the European Union and claimed that Georgian society remains committed to this goal.

“EU enlargement is one of Georgia’s main priorities. This is enshrined in the Constitution of Georgia. The Georgian government, the Georgian Dream government, added this provision to the Constitution, reflecting Georgia’s ambition to become a full member of the European Union. Georgian society remains committed to this goal, and taking this into account, we won the 2024 parliamentary elections. The main slogan of those parliamentary elections was ‘Towards Europe with Dignity,’” Kobakhidze said.

On November 28, 2024, Georgian Dream announced its decision to suspend the country's EU accession process until the end of 2028.
