"We hope that European bureaucrats will change," stated Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in Brussels, while participating in an EU enlargement summit organized by Euronews.

According to Kobakhidze, this attitude also stems from the policy that the European bureaucracy itself pursues toward the European Union.

"I am optimistic that they will change. This does not concern only their attitude toward Georgia; it also relates to their stance toward the European Union itself. We are closely observing the trends unfolding within the EU - economic processes, as well as issues concerning identity and sovereignty. About 20 years ago, the European Union was the most powerful economic actor in global politics. Its nominal Gross Domestic Product exceeded that of the United States, and its economy was also significantly larger than China’s. Looking at today’s figures, however, it is clear that the United States is in a much stronger economic position than the EU, while China’s GDP is now approaching the level of the European Union. Our critical stance toward the European bureaucracy is not limited to its relationship with Georgia; it also stems from the policies that this bureaucracy pursues toward the European Union itself. We..." "We see very negative trends, and we hope that they will change. We are optimistic regarding this issue," the Prime Minister stated.
